N.C.F Successfully conducts her annual general meeting 2018 in Abuja, full council reels out resolutions

NCF SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS HER FULL COUNCIL/ANNUAL GENERAL BOARD MEETING 2018 IN ABUJA

 

The Nigeria Cricket Federation converged in Abuja to conduct her Full Council/ Annual General Meeting 2018. The meeting which took place on the 22nd of December at the Media Center, package B’ National Stadium. Prior to the AGM, the Federation had conducted a board meeting on the 21st of December as it is customary with international best practices as well as a compulsory requirement by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD).

 

MEETING PROCEEDINGS

 

The Meeting began with an opening prayer and 1 minute silence was observed for Mr Tony Ayama, former Nigeria international/Bayelsa State coach and the wife of the board member representing South East on the board Mr. Chika Okoro.

 

The meeting continue with an introduction of Board members and delegate from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development followed by State delegates, other institutions and observers present. Delegates where counted to ensure a 2/3 quorum is formed before the AGM could proceed.

 

MINUTE OF LAST MEETING

 

Minutes of last meeting was read by the Secretary General of the Federation Mr. Taiwo Oriss, observations, corrections and contributions were made by the General Assembly in areas where necessary before the minute was adopted and seconded.

 

OPENING REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT

The President of the Federation, Prof. yahaya Adam Ukwenya began his opening remarks by welcoming and thanking all the delegates present for honouring the invitation to the AGM. He addressed the assembly in areas of

ANNUAL REPORT FROM GENERAL MANAGER

Next on the Agenda was the annual report by the General Manager of the Federation Mr. Emeka Igwilo. A concise report was given on all the Federation activities for the Year 2018 and projected activities for the year 2019. Most commendable report for the year 2018 include

Successful Hosting of the ICC World T-20 Africa Qualifier A’ and the ACA T-20 International Championship both in April 2018.

 

  1. National U-19 victory and qualification in the U-19 Africa Div.2 Qualifier in Potchefstroom, South- Africa in August 2018

 

iii.                ICC Invited 3 Umpires from Nigeria to officiate at the U-19 Africa Div.2 Qualifier in Potchefstroom, South Africa in August 2018

 

  1. Nigeria Participated for the first time in the Africa T-20 cup also in South- Africa

 

  1. Successful launching of the Naija kids mass participation in partnership with PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC)

More activities have been lined up for the year including local tournaments, grassroot and administrative programs.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT FROM AUDITOR

The external auditor for the Federation presented his annual audit report to the general assembly. Questions were raised and answers were provided. A motion was moved and seconded by members of the General Assembly for the adoption of the Audited report presented.

 

CONSIDERATION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE NCF CONSTITUTION

Major area of discourse and deliberations by the General Assembly was the amendment of the NCF constitution. The proposed constitution by the board was carefully analysed, vetted and eventually edited to produce an all acceptable documents with input from almost every member of the General Assembly.

REPORT FROM STATE REPRESENTATIVES AND BOARD COMMITTEES

States from various zones of the country presented their annual report of activities while highlighting challenges and proposing possible solutions with support of the Federation.

The Ethics is Disciplinary Committee headed by Sadiq Elbuba, Board Member representing North East presented the inquiries and findings on the former president of the Federation Engr. Emeka Onyeama in regards to petitions on mal-administration and financial misappropriations.

AOB

Various issues were raised from matters arising from AOB in regards to better ways of developing the game across the Federation. Most prominently was the reference made by the Vice Chairman of Edo State Cricket Association, Abraham Oviawe Esq. to the inquiries and findings by the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee on the former President of the Federation Engr. Emeka Onyeama. Bar. Abraham Oviawe moved a motion for the immediate suspension of Engr. Emeka Onyeama from all Federation activities pending where the allegations were resolved. The Motion was seconded by Dr. Akinyemi, Chairman Ondo State Cricket Association.

  1. The General Assembly ratified the appointment of a new data and finance officer for the Federation.

 

  1. The General Assembly unanimously agreed to continue the services of the external auditor contracted by the Federation

 

  1. The General Assembly unanimously agreed to the amended N.C.F constitution.

 

  1. The General Assembly by majority vote agreed to the compulsory payment of annual affiliation fees by State Cricket Associations.
  2. After the report from the NCF Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, the Full Council  unanimously suspended the former president of the Federation Engr. Emeka Onyeama from all Federation related activities due to gross misconduct and financial misappropriation, pending the outcome of the investigations by the anti-graft agencies.

The meeting was adjourned  and closing prayers were done at 8:30 pm.
