NIGERIA NATIONAL MEN’S TEAM (AKA YELLOW GREENS) ON THE QUEST FOR T-20 WORLD CUP QUALIFIER DIV 1 IN UGANDA
The Nigeria Cricket Senior Men’s team AKA Yellow Green will Saturday 4th May 2019 leave the shores of the country to participate in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa Division 1 qualifier taking place in Uganda from the 15th to 23rd of May 2019.
Prior to the tournament, the Yellow Greens with embark on a pre-tournament tour to Zimbabwe before heading to Uganda for the tournament proper. The invitation extended to the Nigeria Cricket Federation by Zimbabwe Cricket a “TEST Nation” with the right structure and facilities, provides the most appropriate preparation pathway for the National team. Nigeria is expected play 10 friendly T-20 matches over tour period against club sides and franchise teams.
About this time last year in Lagos, Nigeria hosted the ICC T-20 Africa Qualifier A’ Division 2. where 4 countries namely, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia participated. Nigeria qualified alongside Ghana to represent the West Africa region in the above named tournament.
Kenya and Uganda will represent the East Africa region while Namibia and Botswana will represent the Southern Africa Region. The tournament have been scheduled in a round robin format that will see all countries play each other with the top 2 teams playing in the finals with the winner earning the only qualification slot.
Abolarin Rasheed, Strike bowler for the triumphant U-19 heroes in Namibia will make his International debut while Daniel Ajekun has also been called up to the national team for the first time. Captain of the U-19 team Sylvester Okpe and Taiwo Mohamed also makes the cut. The team will be led by the most senior member in the Squad, Ademola Onikoyi to be assisted by Sylvester Okpe. Leke Oyede returns back to the team after a short spell on the side and bowling sensation, Isaac Okpe will also be on the tour.
