Saturday, 2nd March, 2019. History was made. The Oyo State Chapter of the ACUSN (Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers of Nigeria) held its first ever seminar for umpires and scorers in the state. The seminar took place at the indoor-basketball court hall of the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.

The venue was already buzzing before the start time with members and players in the state, who were eager to learn new things and add the knowledge they already have about Cricket officiating.

The Basic elementary course covered area like:

 

  • Spirit of Cricket and Code of Conduct
  • Pre-match and pre-play duties
  • Umpire signals
  • Start of play and cessation of play
  • Dismissals
  • Fair and unfair play
  • Obtaining a result
  • Scorers’ duties

 

The seminar recorded an impressive turn up with 43 persons in attendance. participants from as far as Kwara and Osun State also took part in the exercise. Worthy of mention was the presence of the National Chairman ACUSN, Mr. Taiwo Oladunjoye, who was present from start to finish, dishing out deep knowledge to the attendees from his many years of experience across many levels of umpiring within and outside the shores of the country. The Oyo State chapter will forever be immensely grateful to him for his contribution.

The seminar was anchored by the State ACUSN Champter chairman Mr. Olumide Akintokun.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Akintokun expressed his gratitude to the attendees for the turn out and for their cooperation throughout the exercise. He also hinted that a refreshers course will most likely be scheduled in the second quarter of the year.
