The Federation distributes palliative to the National team players

N.C.F DISTRIBUTES PALLIATIVE TO NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS

 

The Nigeria Cricket Federation has distributed palliatives to members of the various levels of the National team in a bid to cushion the negative effect of the Covid-19 pandemic presently raving the world, which has led to a complete grounding of sporting activities across the globe. In a Virtual Board meeting organized by the Federation for the 1st Quarter of the year, the decision was unanimous and expressed as a welcome development by the international community, stake holders, staff and players of the game. The palliative which was distributed in form of cash was send across to the various levels of the national teams which are the Senior Men, National U-19 Male and the National Women’s teams.

 

Players who have been involved with the national team from the last cricket calendar year were all beneficiaries. You may recall that the senior Men’s Team qualified from Africa division to attend the ICC T-20 World Cup Qualifiers in the UAE, the National U-19 broke over a 100 years history when they qualified for the U-19 world cup in South Africa and that National Women’s team participated in the return leg of the bilateral series with Rwanda and also for the first time, took part in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

 

In a virtual chat with the President of the Federation Prof. Yahaya Adam Ukwenya, he explained that the decision to give palliatives to the players was natural and also one of the basic duties of the board. He further pledged that such palliatives will be given from time to time depending on the resources available to the board during these trying periods.

 

Player’s representative on the board Mr. Endurance Ofem also aligned with the decision of the board saying that the palliative with help the players stock up supplies that will keep them going and also help them in their various home fitness exercises.

 

The Board also resolved on strategic approaches to administer the sport during and post Covid-19 with online activities prioritized as the main focus for now. A committee tagged ‘’Actions during Covid-19’’ was also set up by the board to come up with series of activities during the Lock dock period. Such activities include;

 

1. Organize a 3 day webinar on capacity development which looks to prepare everyone on how to adjust and cope with life and activities during and post Covid-19.

2. Contracting a Fitness expert that will engage all national team players on virtual exercise routine and regime to keep them in shape for tournaments that have been scheduled post Covid-19.

3. Begin a series Titled ‘’ LOCKED DOWN but not LOCKED-OUT, which looks to showcase indoor cricket activities of anyone and everyone during the Lock down.

4. Remembering and appreciating the past heroes of the game from different generations, who contributed to the growth, development and sustenance of the sport over the years, and lots more.

 

Activities of the Federation will be published from time to time as they unfold.
