As preparations for the ICC T-20 Women’s World Cup Africa Qualifier in Botswana draws closer, The Nigeria Cricket Federation is putting steps in place to ensure a smooth camp and training process is achieved. It is no longer News that the ladies will be camping in Benin City with arrival date set at 7th August 2021.
However, what can be regarded as News is the standard of preparation that has been put in place by the Edo State Cricket Association. Under the guidance and directive of the State Chairman, Mr Uyi Akpata, A 3 bedroom apartment have been rented, furnished and primed to serve as guest house for Cricketers camping in Edo State. All rooms furnished with bunks and matrasses, Air conditioned and a perfectly set up living room. The kitchen is fully equipped and a chef provided to ensure that players get the right nutrition during camping and finally, a Back-up Generator for alternate power supply.
Speaking with the Vice Chairman Edo State Cricket Association Barr. Abraham Oviawe, he stated that the guest house was necessary and timely. ‘’The acquisition of the second guest house highlights the standard for which we want to operate as an Association. Another reason is to create an environment that ensures players are comfortable and properly rested during camping and competitions. This also provides an alternative that is cost effective when compared to using hotel and hostel accommodation, He said.’’
The guest house will also ensure that player’s movement and interactions are controlled putting in mind total adherence to all COVID-19 safety protocols.
Nigeria will look to improve on their performance during the Kwibuka Invitational tournament in Rwanda as they face the likes of Zimbabwe, Uganda, Namibia just to mention a few, in order to book the only qualification spot.
