ANAMBRA CRICKET DEVELOPMENTAL TOUR HELD FROM 17TH-18TH NOVEMBER, 2021 AT THE THREE SENATORIAL ZONES IN THE STATE, EXCEEDS TARGET.
NNEWI ZONE – 17th NOV. 2021
It was a very bright new day full of excitement among the participants of the cricket developmental program organised by Anambra State Cricket Association, ably led by Barr. Chuma Anosike, as the cricket developmental delegates arrived Harvesters Secondary School, Nnewi, the venue for the program.
The students could not hold their happiness and enthusiasm as the program began, as they were seen taking immediate action on practicing what they were taught.
The program saw a refresher course on what cricket game is all about, the ethics of the game and it’s importance to individual and the society at large during the indoor session of the programme.
The out door session which involves the practical session kick started immediately after the indoor session, where the participants were shown the practical aspect of the game from how to bat, to how to bowl, to how to field as well as the officiating signals.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of cricket equipment donated by Nigeria Cricket Federation to the participating schools.
The developmental program recorded the presence of four schools including primary and secondary schools with over one fifty participants, includes the students, staffs and officials.
The schools that participated are;
Monsignor Joseph Nwibegbunam memorial secondary school, Harvesters international school Nnewi, Little Bright Angels Nursery and Primary School, Dubem Nursery and primary school, All from Nnewi town.
The Cricket developmental train thereafter departed to Onitsha at the end, in a high spirits of success from the Nnewi participants.
ONITSHA ZONE – 17th NOV. 2021.
On arriving at the All Saints Cathedral field, Onitsha, it was already filled with participants in high spirits in anticipation of the development program.
The delegates followed the same procedure as was done in Nnewi by restating the ethics of Cricket game, what Cricket is about, the importance of cricket to the individual and society, the rules and regulations of the game, including some officiating signals.
After the theoretical part of the game, the participants were taken to the open field where the practical aspect of what they were taught was demonstrated.
Highlight of the occasion was the distribution of Cricket equipments to the participating schools as they all went home with the eagerness of making cricket a special sport in their individual schools.
The event recorded the presence of five (5) schools which are: Peterson Memorial Grammar school, Anglican Girls Grammar School, St Christopher Seminary 3-3, Dennis Memorial Grammar Schools, Archbishop Onyemelukwe secondary school, all from Onitsha, with an over 50 participants including the students and officials. Some of the schools that could not make it, called to regret not making it.
AWKA ZONE – 18th NOV. 2021.
The developmental train arrived Ekwueme Square Awka on 18th November, 2021 and met similar situation from the other zones. Everyone was eager to key in to what cricket has to offer.
The delegates were able to keep the expectations of the participants high in spirit.
Similar procedures used at Nnewi and Onitsha were also used at the Awka zone as to put everyone in one page.
After the theoretical part, the practical part followed suit.
Awka Zone recorded the participation of five (5) Schools which are Bishop Crowther Seminary, Awka, Austica secondary school, Nanka, Queens Convent, Awka, Regal Secondary school Nri, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Secondary school Awka with a total of 50 participants including the students and officials.
Some of the absentee schools called to take permission for not going to be present.
Highlight of the occasion was presenting of Cricket equipment to the participating schools.
That drew the curtain of the Anambra State Cricket Developmental Tour.
The dignitaries present were School Principals, School Directors, Game Masters and Mistresses, the former Secretary, Anambra State Cricket Association/veteran Cricketer Mr Victor Nwangwu, ACUSN Chairman South-East/Anambra Chapter and the state Head Coach Mr. Ikem Asika, Anambra State Cricket Association Secretary Mr. Osita Obijiofor, Organizer/ Anambra volunteer coach Umeh Ugochukwu, NCF Development Officer Miss Azuka Onwujiobi and many other dignitaries.
Volunteered Coaches were:
Dumebi okoye, Esther Ani, Nzube Nwokike, Okeke Chijioke, Okeke Izuchukwu, Ikenna Okafor, Deborah Agboso, Ndubude Chisom, Udekwe Chiemelie, and Chuma Udogu.
Special thanks to the Anambra State Cricket Association Members, the ever working Chairman Barr. Chuma Anosike, South East Cricket Association and the Nigeria Cricket federation.
To other Voluntary coaches, the participated schools administrators, the owners of the venues used, you all made the program to be a success.
