*Final Match (Rwanda vs Nigeria)*

Less than 24 hours before this match, Rwanda narrowly missed out on the victory after falling short by just 4 runs when the game was taken to the wire in the last over. Nigeria celebrated with everything they hard and rightfully so because the game looked like they had lost it when inform Giselle Ishimwe was on strike in that over, on the back of 30 runs already in the match.

Rwanda won the toss and elected to bat first, sending Nigeria to field as was the reverse setting the previous day. Captain Diane Bimenyimana was lost after just 1 run and it looked like de’ ja vu’ once again for Rwanda. Carefully and tactically, Sarah Uwera and Giselle Ishimwe navigated their innings to form a 9 overs partnership that provided the stability required by the team.

Sarah Uwera was the anchor point for which other players batted around her. Rwanda eventually finished with 129 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Sarah Uwera led the batting score with 34 runs off 54 balls, strongly supported by Giselle Ishime with 31 runs off 25 balls, Belyze Murekatete with 20 runs off 17 balls not out and finally Ishimwe Henriette with 10 runs off 10 balls.

Miracle Imimole got 2 wickets, conceding 8 runs in 3 overs as the best bowling statistics for Nigeria.

The match was set for a super second innings as the pavilion was packed with spectators. Nigeria resumed proceedings with the same bating pair of Kehinde Abdulquadri and Lucky Piety. Beyond the wildest of guesses and acceptance of the reality, Nigeria batting line up crumbled like dominos as wickets fell from both ends in every over to see Nigeria struggle with just 29 runs for the loss of 6 wickets after the power play overs.

A late fight back from Favor Esiegbe and Ude Lillian was insufficient to muster any decent challenge as the Nigeria team left it a little too late on a day were they were they can be described as most unlucky. It could be regarded as 1 bad day in the office, but certainly not the day the team would have chosen if they had the luxury of options to choose from.

Nigeria finally succumbed to 76 runs all out in 17.1 overs. The score line may not have reflected the capacity of team Nigeria but it is what it is as they look forward to the next tournament.

Ude Lillian scored 15 runs off 12 balls and Salome Sunday with 11 runs off 8 balls as the only double figures for team Nigeria.

For Rwanda, Vumilia Magueritte took 4 wickets, conceding 17 runs in 4 overs, supported by Ingabira Sifa with 2 wickets conceding 14 runs in 4 overs.

Vumilia Magueritte was named player of the match.

*3RD Place Match (Ghana vs Sierra Leone)*

Ghana won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a total of 90 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

The opening pair of Elizabeth Annor and Janet Alaare did not produce any runs as both batters were dismissed for just 1 run in the 1st over.

Rhyda Amanfo Ofori, Captain of the side turned the game around the latter stages with 24 runs off 20 balls, supported by Felicia Seerwa with 16 runs, Miriam Eshua with 12 runs and Rashidat Salia with 11 runs respectively.

Fatu pessima took 4 wickets, conceding 14 runs in 4 overs, joined by Annmarie Kamara with 3 wickets conceding, 20 runs in 4 overs as the best bowling contribution for Sierra Leone.

 

In the second innings, Sierra Leone chased the required 91 runs with aggression. They needed just the efforts from the opening batting pair of Mabinty King and Amiaata Kamara to ensure victory with the former scoring 30 runs off 35 balls and the latter with 45 runs off 43 balls.
