In a must win contest for Nigeria while coming off the backdrop of a disappointing match against Tanzania and Namibia also wounded from the loss against Zimbabwe, there was a lot at stake for both teams and 1 more loss for either team would end their journey at the 13th Africa games.
The toss favoured Namibia, who elected to bat first, setting the stage for an intense battle on the field.
A very well crafted bowling attack from the Nigeria team saw Namibia amassing a total of 121 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. On paper, this was a very defendable score for Namibia but the Yellow Greens had other plans.
In the second innings, the Nigerian team showcased their batting skills led by the opening pair of Sulaimon Runsewe and Daniel Ajeku. The openers remained steady, building a 23 runs partnership before Sulaimon Runsewe was caught by Malan K for 9 runs.
However, other notable contributions from Daniel Ajeku 20 runs of 25 balls, Isaac Danladi 28 runs of 21 balls and a captain’s performance from Sylvester Okpe
who stole the show with 22 runs off 15 balls guiding to guide his team to a well-deserved victory.
With 1 ball left in the innings and 2 runs to win, Sylvester ended any hope for Namibia to remain in the tournament with a powerful six.
