The Edo State 2018 Cricket Season closing ceremony ends in grand style. The 2018 season closing ceremony which featured a range of activities started from Wednesday 23rd May in Auchi Edo North senatorial district to the grand finale in Edo Boys High School, Benin City on the 26th May 2016.
The Edo State Cricket Association led by the Amiable Chairman Mr Uyi Akpata, resolved at the beginning of his administration that Cricket must be played across the 3 Senatorial district of the state. Benin City, (Edo South), Ekpoma (Edo Central) have already enjoyed some level of development and stability over the years with Edo North being the fallow ground yet to be cultivated.
On the 23rd of May, The dream of establishing the game of Cricket across the various zones in the state became a reality as Cricket was officially launched in Auchi (Edo North).
DAY 1
CRICKET LAUNCH IN AUCHI
The Closing ceremony of the Edo State 2018 Cricket season began with Coaching Clinic and mass participation in Auchi, with Our Lady of Fatima College as host to the historic event. 3 schools were chosen as pilot schools for this program and they are
- Our Lady of Fatima College (Boys)
- Angela Grammar School (Girls)
- Auchi Polytechnic Staff School (Mixed)
A Total of 240 kids raging from JSS 1 to SS2 were introduced to basis of the game. Areas of coaching was
- Cricket as a Sport (Basic explanation)
- Bating -Grip, Stance, Back lift, Stepping and play
- Bowling -Grip, Delivery action and stepping
- Fielding -Throwing, Catching and interceptions (Long and Short Barriers).
By the successful completion of this introductory program, a total of 687 Kids have been introduced to the game in Edo State between January and May 2018. A set target at the beginning of the year was to produce One thousand (1000) new entrants in 2018 and by way of statistics, that number will be exceeded.
