The senior men’s cricket team AKA Yellow Greens have made a significant leap in the latest ICC T-20 ranking. The Men’s team who are currently ranked 38 in the world, move 4 steps from 42nd position with is a clear reflection of progress made in the last few months.
Reacting to the news with excitement and as a wonderful development, Mr. Uyi Akpata, President, Nigeria Cricket Federation said that being 38 in the world is a good omen for the Senior Men’s National team as their performance in the just concluded West Africa Trophy is evident of more good things to come.
Just over a month, Nigeria hosted Ghana, Sierra Leone and Rwanda in the West Africa trophy in Lagos Nigeria, winning all 10 matches, this has played a significant role in the latest ranking which also indicates the country’s desire to further improve our ranking with opportunities in the Namibia during the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier slated for 20th November to 1st December 2023.
In the continent, Nigeria maintains her 8th position in Men’s T20 ranking and 7th in the Women’s category. The ladies will have a chance to also improve their rankings when they feature in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier in Uganda in December 2023.
Focus will then be concentrated on the Nigeria Women’s international Invitational tournament in February ahead of the Africa games in March 2024 where Nigeria Men and Women’s team as scheduled to participate in the maiden edition of Cricket inclusion in the games.
