EDO STATE CRICKET ASSOCIATION BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF TURF WICKET AT EDO BOYS HIGH SCHOOL IN BENIN CITY.

 

Edo State Cricket Association under the progressive administration and leadership of Mr. Uyi Akpata, has begun the construction of Turf Wicket in Edo Boys High School Ugbowo, Benin City. (The traditional home of Cricket in the State).

 

The Turf wicket construction which is the first of its kind in the region and also the first in a school in Nigeria is geared towards one of the 5 pillars of Cricket development by the Edo State Cricket Board, which is construction and upgrade of facilities in the state.

 

The turf wicket will further enhance the already elaborate development scheme going on the state and attracts tournaments from within and outside the country as well.

On ground to facilitate the construction of the pitches are Francis Ategeka, Chief Grounds-man for the Nigeria Cricket Federation and Olayemi Amusa, independent contractor both certified by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The project is closely monitored by the Vice Chairman of the state cricket Association Barr. Abraham Oviawe with daily supervision by Coach Joseph Okonobo, Cyril Musa, Amb. Theophilus Adolphus Ibodeme and others.

 

-Owen Uhunamure and Dickson Okoeliebo, the grounds men for the state are also available to understudy the process.

 

It is worthy to note that the Turf Wickets will have Four (4) strips. While the practice net will have Two (2) strips and one (1) Astro Turf.

The National Sports Festival will be hosted in 2020 by Edo State and the turf wicket will be ready before then with the immediate target at completion it time for the 2019/2020 Edo State Cricket Season.
