The Nigeria Cricket Federation has successfully conducted her 2021 Annual General and Full Council meeting in Abuja.

With lots of Cricket programs and activities conducted over the year, the Federation is closing on a high with the mandatory gathering of Cricket stake holders to review the performance of the year and also projections INTO 2022.

Opening proceedings for the meeting began with the welcome address by the President of the Federation Mr. Uyi Akpata, gave a brief of the agenda for the day and thanked all delegates for attending the meeting. The secretary of the Federation Mr. Taiwo Oriss made a head count to ascertain that a quorum had been formed and the meeting was allowed to proceed.

The AGM was divided into 2 sessions which was the interactive session/town hall meeting setting that allowed for stake holders and delegates to raise issues pertaining to each State, zone or specifics situations as the case may be. Issues raised bothered around challenges and success stories from each region/ states and also proposing solutions on way forward. The second session was the AGM proper which had the agenda divided into 2 sessions, the Ordinary business and the Special Business.

Matters discussed under the ordinary business included but not limited to Board report for the year ended 2021, presentation of the audited financial statement for the year ended 31st December 2020, appointment of the Auditor’s appointment and others, while the special business concentrated on the governance structure of the Federation with emphasis on the constitution and matters arising from AOB.

The General Manager of the Federation Mr. Emeka Igwilo gave a detailed report on the programs conducted during the 2021 calendar year and also projections into activities for 2022.

Speaking with the Media at the AGM, the President of the Federation Mr. Uyi Akpata gave a brief on the matters discussed during the meeting in areas relating to the 5 Key Strategic Imperatives that will be form the operational structure of the Federation. ‘’ The constitution forms the bedrock for which the Federation is run. The International Cricket Council, the Nigeria Olympic Committee and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development have encouraged us to get our own constitution and some minor clauses have been effected in the already revised document and hopefully, we shall have it passed today by the General Assembly. Other areas we want to focus on are the technical competence around each of our teams across all levels, grassroots development where we want to reach over 250,000 new entrants into the sports annually, continue to improve our facilities and forming strategic partnerships with the Government and Corporate bodies, Institutions and alumni bodies, members of the Press and more. All of these imperatives heads towards one direction, we want to be the top 3 sports in Nigeria and clearly number 1 when it comes to organization, Akpata Said.’’

As part of the highlights of the AGM, the NCF has resolved to continue to spread the game to the regions by supporting good initiatives and programs. The AGM also vetted, ratified and approved the reviewed constitution and also approved the Audited reports as of the year ended 31st December 2020.

Other activities include reappointment of the Financial Auditor for another year and presentation of Board committees.

The motion for adjournment of the meeting was raised by Mr. Macfarlane Ejah, representative from Cross Rivers State and Seconded by Mr. Tajudeen Afolabi, representing Zamfara State, to bring the meeting to a close.
