NCF WOMEN’S T20I TOURNAMENT (DAY 2: MATCH REPORT)

• Team Nigeria brushes aside The Gambia to make it 2 wins from 2 games

• Sierra Leone bounced back to record 88 runs victory against Ghana.

• Mabinty King scored 59 runs to become 2nd player to record a half century in the tournament.

Match 1 🙁 Nigeria vs The Gambia 9:30am)

The 3rd Match of the NCF Women’s T20I Tournament was between Nigeria and The Gambia. Under clear skies and friendly weather in the morning, The Gambia won the toss and elected to Bat first thereby sending Nigeria to field.

The opening bowling pair of Racheal Samson and Ude Lillian was brilliant as wickets fell every other over to leave The Gambia team on just 7 runs for the o loss of 7 wickets after the power play overs. The Gambia managed to finish with just 20 runs all out in 10.1 overs

Awa Bobb scored 8 runs off 8 balls as the best batting individual performance for The Gambia.

Favour Esiegbe got 3 wickets conceding 7 runs in 3 overs, supported by Ude Lillian with 2 maiden wickets in 2 overs, Blessing Etim with 2 wickets for 3 runs in 2 overs and finally Miracle Imimole with 2 wickets for 5 runs in 2 overs.

In the second innings, Piety Lucky and Kehinde Abdulquadri were sufficient to execute the run chase to score the required total of 21 runs in just 1.5 overs.

Lucky Piety scored 14 runs off 8 balls as the best batting performance for Nigeria

Ude Lillian was named player of the match

Nigeria won by 10 wickets

Match 2: (Ghana vs Sierra Leone)

Both teams lost their opening fixtures against Rwanda and Nigeria respectively leaving so much to play for in this fixture.

Sierra Leone won the toss and elected to Bat first. The opening partnership of Aminata Kamara and Mabinty King approached the power play with so much aggression as would be expected from a T20 game, scoring boundaries at will. At the end of the power play overs, Sierra Leone was sitting comfortably on 45 runs for no loss of wicket.

They continued with the momentum after the power play till 8.1 overs where Kamara departed after scoring 33 runs off 26 balls. Mabinty King held her nerves to score a well-deserved half century off 43 balls with Sierra Leone on 103.

Sierra Leone eventually finished with 136 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 20 overs

Mabinty King led from the front for Sierra Leone, scoring a total of 59 runs off 63 balls, supported by Aminata Kamara with 33 runs off 26 balls and Fatou Pessima with 20 runs off 30 balls.

Cynthia Konadu and Miriam Eshun both got 1 wicket each for Ghana.

In the second innings, Ghana never really got going as they lost wickets early in the power play overs. Spirited effort in the middle stage of the innings but not sufficient enough to muster a chase as they struggled to keep a decent partnership at any point. Kate Awuah was the only shining light in the Ghanaian batting line up by scoring 16 runs off 15 balls.

In the end, Ghana could only manage 49 runs all out in 12.5 overs.

Fatou Pessima was the star performer with the ball for Sierra Leone, taking 4 wickets conceding 14 runs in 4 overs, supported by Janet Kowa with 3 wickets in 2.5 overs, conceding 10 runs.

Sierra Leone won by 88 runs.
