In the first match, Ekiti faced off against Oyo State in a high-stakes encounter. Ekiti set a formidable total of 120 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, with strong contributions from their batter, Olukayode Ayomiposi who scored 55 runs not out of 37 balls and Adetifa Arinayo 17 runs of 25 balls. In response, Oyo State managed to score 74 runs for the loss of 3 wickets, falling short of the target by 46 runs. Ekiti State emerged victorious with a commanding display of skill and determination.
Match 2 witnessed a showdown between Lagos and Ogun, with both teams aiming for a winning start. Lagos put up a competitive total of 120 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, courtesy of some excellent batting performances from Uwana Moses 27 runs from 26 balls and Abiodun Esther 22 runs from 32 balls. In reply, Ogun struggled to keep up with the required run rate and could only manage 74 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Lagos State clinched victory by 46 runs, showcasing their prowess on the field.
The third match of the day pitted Oyo women against Osun women in a closely contested battle. Oyo women’s team held their nerve to restrict Osun to 75 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. In a tense chase, the Oyo women’s team reached the target with just two wickets in hand, sealing a hard-fought victory.
Amidst the on-field action, the event commenced with a health talk organized by the Nigeria Women in Sports (NAWIS) team, led by NCF board member Professor M.A Sulaimon. The session aimed to enlighten the players about the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being, highlighting the holistic approach to sportsmanship.
